Driver's Education for Homeschool Students

MPI is pleased to announce enhancements to their registration system that will greatly improve access to Driver Ed for homeschool students. Previously most homeschool students would have to wait at least a month to register after students in the host school had priority. However, as of November 16, 2015, homeschool students will now have equal access to courses within their school division in the primary/priority phase.

Note: This does not apply to most Independent schools or schools that have closed reciprocity due to offering half-credit/credit programs.

This is how it will work:

  1. Students will go to our Course Finder as early as November 12th (for the term Jan-June 2016) to view available courses http://apps.mpi.mb.ca/DL/CourseFinder.aspx or in French, http://apps.mpi.mb.ca/DL/CourseFinder.aspx?L=F
  2. They will select the school division they live in and for the school they are enrolled in they will choose “Home School”
  3. They will then put in their date of birth, click “search” and all available courses will show below. This will include when they can register (which will now show November 16th for schools in their division).

This should provide many more options for homeschool students within their school division. We would like to thank all the host schools and the Independent Education Unit at Manitoba Education and Advanced Learning for helping us make this a reality.

Thanks,

Mennonite Heritage Educational Tours

Mennonite Heritage Village

Dear Homeschool Teachers:

Mennonite Heritage Village offers interactive and memorable field trip experiences for children Grades K-6 and guided or self-guided tours for Grades 7 and up. Our school programming takes you right into our heritage homes and buildings to introduce you to the interesting lives of the Mennonite people from the 19th century to present day. Whether studying Mennonite immigration history of a local community, or as the history of the diverse communities of Canada, a field trip to this museum vividly brings to life these abstract concepts.

You and your students will step back to a different way of life and enjoy a unique day away from the classroom. These adventures in education have been popular with students, teachers and parents for many years due to their interactive nature and the capacity to enrich their learning opportunities.

Following is a sampling of our programs:

  • Interpretive (available May, June and September)
  • Hands-On (available May and June)
  • Structures/Windmill Studies (available October)
  • Guided tours (May – September)
  • Self-guided tours (May – September)

A detailed description of the various programs are available on our website at www.mhv.ca

Break for lunch at our Livery Barn Restaurant or bring a picnic lunch (outside tables provided). A school programs lunch menu is available for the Livery Barn Restaurant. If you wish to order lunch, please request an order form.
